There are so many myths and differing information when it comes to fitness. It is really all about what works for you. Here are some typical myths that you will hear and some good answers for them. Another one that I will mention that is not on the list is that there is a difference between healthy, athletic, and fit. Health in compasses the entire body. We have all seen muscle bound body builders, who seem like they are in great shape, drop dead of a heart attack. Often this has to do with the method of supplementing that they use or the mix of chemicals that change their body chemistry to grow so much muscle. It is not always about the leanest, most athletic looking person. When we take gymnasts and compare them with sumo wrestlers there is an obvious difference. They are athletic depending on the discipline of their chosen sport and neither could compete in the other. Being fit is another word that is a misnomer in our culture. We often believe that it deals with toned, skinny, people with flat stomachs and six packs. The truth is that I know plenty of fit people that could run circles around me and last longer in competition that I can, and show little to no real muscle definition. We need to let go of the mindset that being fit has to do with image. I currently have tow clients who have trained together for years, one is 196 lbs and took the whole winter off, the other is over 300 lbs and has steadily trained for years...which one do you think is more fit and can push himself further. Change your mindset and be the best you can be no matter the size, just enjoy who you are and work toward your goals.
