Why You Should Write Things Down

I read, somewhere, that when you read things you remember about 10% of what you read but if you read and then write it down you retain 70% of that same material. I then put that into practice and I currently have 15 or 20 composition books filled with quotes and other things that I thought were worthy of being remembered. It has also helped me to see what was influencing me at that specific time in my life. I can see growth and struggles that I was going through, all by looking at what I was reading and remembering. We live in a time and age where we have rampant obesity and a continuing de-conditioning of our bodies. Our physical injuries, surgeries, and medicine usage are all going up because of this. We struggle with chronic back pain, hip pain, and shoulder pain because of the lifestyle that we have chosen. We sit all day long at our computers, in our cars, on our couch, etc. This causes a de-conditioning of our core muscles and causes us to slouch, round our shoulders, and have terrible posture. It is also the major cause for back pain and fall risks in older age. When we refuse to move lower than 90 degrees we lose that range of motion and become incapable of moving lower than 90 degrees. This increases our fall risk as we get older and ensures that we need chair lifts and wheelchairs as we age. I just recently was listening to the SpartanUp Podcast and heard Dr. Kelly Starrett talk about sitting on the floor and the benefits of moving from the ground up. As I type this I am sitting on a couch cushion on the floor because I got rid of my couch, dining room table, and soon my 4 poster bed.
