I am not sure why it is surprising that getting out and running for fitness would have health benefits. It is one of the best ways to improve your cardiovascular health. Not to mention people have been doing it since the beginning of time. It is super low cost, just some running shoes and the road or a trail. There has been so much stigma about it being bad for your knees and overuse injuries that it has stopped many people from getting out there and reaping the benefits. However, if you are stretching or doing yoga regularly and you train smart you should be able to keep relatively free from injury. We need to keep active healthy lifestyles if we are to live to a good old age and still be able to function. Check out this article and find some of the other benefits that running gives us.
