As soon as someone finds out that I am vegan and I am an athlete, the first question they ask is, how do you get your protein? We are so uneducated about the sources of protein out there and so overwhelmed by the idea that you need meat and large quantities of protein to be healthy or build muscle. There have been lots of misinformation out there about plant protein not being a complete protein. However, some of the best athletes in the world eat a plant based diet and many of the former proponents for meat consumption are favoring a plant based approach now. Most notably Arnold Schwarzenegger. There is all kinds of information out there that shows how healthy a plant based diet can be. The great thing is that plant based means exactly that, you don't need to completely swear off meat and become completely vegan. You can adopt a better more plant based diet limiting the dependency on meat, animal products, and processed foods. So check out this article and find out what I am eating to keep fueled for my endurance races and why I keep getting better and bettter.
