How Far Fitness Has Fallen

Here is an article that Spartan Race recently posted. I thought that it was great so I wanted to repost it for my viewers. It really is amazing to se how far we have fallen. I have a 13 year old son, who is 6'2" but can barely run the whole block. He loves to watch tv and play video games but hates being outside and getting physical. We have really neglected our bodies and continue to feel the effects from the lack of exercise and movement. Whether it is the obesity epidemic or the apathy and related conditions due to inactivity we struggle to even come close to being as strong as people were just a generation ago. My First Spartan Race....today in Indy

I am running my first Spartan Race this afternoon. So this is the only blog I will be posting today. I am excited and determined to make it to that finish line. I tore my rotator cuff a few months ago, but rehab has been going well and I am around 80%. I plan on killing it today and am tapped up with strength tape. The Famous Rio Tarcoles Where The Crocodiles Live

There is a bridge over the Rio Tarcoles just north of Jaco on the way back to San Jose where all the crocodiles come together to sun themselves. I was able to see this magnificent sight on my first trip to Costa Rica. Many people pull over to the side of the road and get out and take pictures. The crocodiles are huge and scary, but also beautiful. I would estimate that the largest I saw might have weighted about 800 lbs and looked like a dinosaur. Some of the most challenging poses in yoga are balance poses. Many of them you may or may not be able to ever do. Much of balance relies on orientation of bones as well as flexibility. I struggle with arm balances because of issues with the radial bones in my right arm. However, the name of the game is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. I am excellent at standing balance poses because my leg muscles and those small stabilizer muscles are constantly worked with all my MMA training. I was in my teens and had severe high blood pressure. I had frequent, several times a day, nosebleeds. My resting blood pressure was 180/95. I had extreme stress at home. The doctor told me that if I didn't get things under control I would have a heart attack before I was 30. I also refused to take any medication for it. Around 02-03 my dad had a quadruple bypass. I am not sure if it was before that or after I finally got on medication for my own blood pressure issues. Always terrified about how much damage I had already done to my own heart because of the lack of care I had given it. How to Declutter the Mind and Finally Concentrate

This is often the little known fact about yoga. All of the positions, all the stretching, all the breathing is in place to get you to do one thing....RELEASE. In America we think of yoga as another workout routine, a way to slim down, tone up, or burn calories. When in fact it is really all about connection and quieting yourself so you can enable that connection. With that in mind I almost contradict myself because I have a difficult time with quiet yoga. However, this has little to do with the intent of yoga and more to do with the ADHD that I constantly struggle with. This is why yoga is so good for relaxation, but it is so much more than that.
