How to Eat Cheap Around the World

This is one of my favorite parts about traveling, you get to sample all the amazing food from the people that make it. The first thing that impressed me when I went to Costa Rica is all the family run, roadside restaurants called "sodas." This is where you can get the freshest, local cuisines, at the best prices. Not only do you get all that but you also get to mix with the real Costa Rica. Some of the people that I met while eating at these establishments really reminded me why I love having a cultural experience. When I was going to get my paperwork to climb Chirripo I stopped at a "soda" in San Gerardo de Rivas. I had just left the beach and still was in my swimming trunks. I had lunch there and the little old lady that was cooking and serving us couldn't speak English. We could barely communicate with her, but we mentioned that we would be climbing Chirripo. She took one look at me and said, "Chirripo Mucho Frio" which means Chirripo is very cold and she thought I should change my clothes. I told here Manana (tomorrow). Then when we came down from the mountain two days later we went back and had dinner there. Even though we struggled with communication that lady left an impression on my life and did so much more than just serve me food. What a beautiful experience.
